A Quiet Birthday Celebration

Day One - Dinner at Mt. Emily

I had an early and quiet birthday celebration this year, just the way I wanted it. I've been wanting to try the food at Wild Rocket @ Mt. Emily for quite some time, and so I suggested we go there for my birthday dinner:

We couldn't really decide what to eat. Sheren was caught between the crabmeat linguine and the laksa pesto linguine, whereas I was contemplating between the rack of lamb and the teriyaki salmon.

We were so hungry that I forgot to take pictures of the food AGAIN! Damn. The food was alright (not fantastic though), but my lamb had too much fats on it and ended up eating only half of the portion as the rest were just fatty meat. Sheren and Bunny both remarked that the pasta was pretty good and MH gorged on sweet potatoes instead.

Just as we were ordering desserts, my fruit cake arrived! Thanks to Bunny for organising the cake and Sheren for picking it up and bringing it to the restaurant:








I've been craving for fruit cake ever since Bunny's birthday, maybe because we OD-ed on chocolate cake last weekend. The cake they bought for me was a sponge cake with mango mousse and fruit! Yummy!

We hung around Mt. Emily for awhile after dinner and wanted to check out a bar called Wild Oats, which was right next to Hang Out Hotel. But it was dreadfully quiet there. Although there were a few patrons, there was no music at all and we could hear everyone's conversations. So we decided to head to Dempsey instead.

Bunny heard of a new place called House at Dempsey, which upon arriving, we realised that it was an army barrack that was converted into a restaurant/lounge cum spa. The design of the place was pretty interesting, albeit slightly odd. I felt a bit cold and distant most of the time, mainly due to the concept of the place and the brick walls. Plus, the service there wasn't welcoming or warm, so that didn't help.

The service was so poor, so much so that the waitress called my Grasshopper as a "San Miguel" and Bunny's San Miguel as a "Grasshopper"!

Day Two - Unwrapping my present

I found a HUGE present wrapped in red on my bag after I came out of the shower yesterday:

Finally! My very own iPod docking station with FM radio!!!

Music has never sounded sweeter with Bunny's double bass iPod docking station with FM radio. Plus, it can be remotely controlled and that's a bonus! Another good thing about this stereo is that it charges the iPod when it's mounted onto the dock, so it doesn't run out of battery when you're listening to it continuously!

It's strange though. I'm not able to control my iPod with the remote control when the user manual says that it's possible to do so. Hmm, will have to check customer support, but I can't even find my serial number! *cries*

It was a nice and quiet 26th birthday celebration with friends and family.

Bunny's Birthday - 2007

Bunny's birthday weekend was fabulous! It seemed that our initial plans turned out pretty well, and she was hopping around with joy during the entire weekend. I think she likes birthday celebrations.

Saturday (1 September) - Dinner at Brewerkz

We ordered quite a spread and everyone were bursting out of their pants once we were done with the food and the beer (which I barely drank).

Dinner consisted of mussels in a creamy and buttery sauce, their IPA soup, buffalo wings, N.Y. steak and fries.

After stuffing our faces, the birthday girl was entitled to her birthday treat from Brewerkz - a slice of cake:

After dinner, we proceeded to Chinatown where we spent the next few hours singing (and laughing) our hearts out, so much so that I think we were in a situation where we could have puked our dinner out.

No one else sings Hokkien tunes better than Teri. We attempted a few songs but Teri's the one who succeeds in singing it "accurately" and the way it should be sung!

And at the stroke of midnight, Bunny received ANOTHER slice of chocolate cake, this time bought from Billy Bombers by Monica and Teri. It was a last minute preparation as the cake which I had prepared was for her family celebration instead:

After having practised our singing talent and dance moves at Party World, we went up the road to Play, where we met up with Bunny's ex(gay)-colleagues.

Sunday (2 September) - Long Beach Seafood Dinner

What a pity! All of us were SO busy eating that night and no one took any pictures of the black pepper crab, chilli crab, drunken prawns, fresh scallops with vegetables, and Hong Kong noodles, which we ordered!

Family affair

ANOTHER chocolate cake for Bunny. This time round, it was specially ordered and delivered for her from Awfully Chocolate. BUT, they screwed up my order. I made an order for a chocolate banana cake, but when we cut it open, it was just plain chocolate. I was so furious. They've said that they'll compensate with a smaller chocolate banana cake, but still...

Denise Ho a.k.a. hocc

Yes! I think I do. Haha. And I know many other girls do too! I've been raving about her a lot recently, but I think this is highly due to her recent image. She looks so much better now, as compared to this:

Tennis, Ghosts and Pirates

I've been dreaming of tennis SO often (and underwater tennis too) and it's only till now that I bothered to search for the meaning behind it:


Tennis
To dream that you are playing tennis, represents changes and the need to actively assert yourself. You may be feeling the need to prove yourself time and time again. Alternatively, you may be unable to commit to a situation or decision. You are literally going back and forth between two choices.

Since one of the score in tennis is denoted as "love", then the game of tennis may be a metaphor for a romantic relationship or a courtship.


Maybe it's because of the Ghost Festival now, or perhaps it's because Bunny sent me a scary picture of a ghost on an MRT that caused me to dream of ghosts last night. I dreamt that a family of three appeared in my room - a Filipino family. And I was desperately trying to get out of there.

Then, the dream suddenly changed to an island where we were heading for tennis (yup, again) and we met some ruthless pirates along the way. I can't really recall what happened there, but it was rather bizarre.

Ghost
In general, ghosts symbolizes aspects of yourself that you fear. This may involve a painful memory, guilt, or some repressed thoughts. You may be afraid of death and dying. Alternatively, ghosts are representative of something that is no longer obtainable or within reach. It indicates a feeling of disconnection from life and society. Pirate

The Sweet Escape Tour 2007 - Singapore

The Sweet Escape Tour was smashing!!! Gwen Stefani is such a great performer - original, confident, outgoing, energetic and simply brilliant. I liked to see her strut around the stage with her little cha-cha steps. Everything about her is uniquely Gwen - her voice, her movements, the way she sings and even her Harajuku girls. It's no wonder she's one of the most famous and recognisable artistes around.

This was where we sat. Not very far from the stage, but it ain't that close either

The concert started with a bang with "The Sweet Escape" and followed by "Rich Girl". She sang a few more tracks before sending a wave of hysteria within the audience with "Hollaback Girl", which the word 'shit' was censored. Hahaha! "It's my *beep*, it's my *beep*.....this *beep* is bananas, B.A.N.A.N.A.S."

Not everyone is able to carry-off jailbird stripes like Gwen. Not even Paris (oh no, wait. Paris's was orange).

The concert climaxed when Gwen Stefani got the audience worked up during "Cool", where she ran towards the audience and started dancing and singing amongst us with only one bodyguard protecting her. Now that's what I call up-close and personal:

After a few more tracks, she disappeared for a few minutes and returned with three more tracks for the Encore. The concert ended with my favourite track (and MTV), "What You Waiting For?".

During the entire concert, I was bobbing, and clapping, and screaming, and dancing, and jiggling about so much, that I was tired and thirsty the whole time! Even my hands were sore and red from clapping too much. Bunny was enjoying herself tremendously and she even managed to catch a closer glimpse of Gwen by running down the aisle while she was singing with the audience.

Everyone left the Indoor Stadium humming her tunes all the way to the bus-stop. There was so much talk about the concert and this just goes to show how successful it was.

Last but not least: GWEN STEFANI ROCKS MY SOCKS OFF!!!
