More Food Please...

Recieved a call from CE yesterday evening and ended up speaking to 5 people and a dog. Heard that CE and Jun cooked so much food in celebration of Richard's 31st birthday, that they could feed a platoon with it. Hahaha. Makes me think back of the times when we would whip up a feast for friends just because we felt like it. I like to feed people. Right now, I'm the one feeding myself. My stomach is so bloated from tea and in-between snacks and I still managed to stuff dinner into it and dessert as well. I'm already mentally planning my supper for tonight: Maccers. Hahaha. With shaker fries of course.

The recent weather has been intolerable. The humidity level has increased for sure and my face feels oily most of the time. All this makes me agitated and grumpy, worsens my skin condition, and destructs my sleeping pattern. I've forgotten how hot and humid it can be in Singapore.

Went to watch "Take The Lead" last night with my padawan and Jerry's playmate (padawan = Jerry, playmate = me). The show was a letdown; besides watching the ballroom moves and dances, there basically wasn't any much of a plot that will keep you interested in finding out what would happen, because these shows are more or less predictable. Next show on our list: Paradise Now.

My eyes were turning red from staring at the big screen for too long and I was already dozing off in the cab on my way home, but being influenced by Jerry's loser streak, I took a loser cab that drove at a losing speed of 70km/h when there was absolutely NO traffic in front, at the back and around us. Ok, so the speed limit for Bukit Timah Rd is 70km/h, but when there's totally no traffic around, it feels like 40km/h, tortoise speed. Felt so irritated by the cab driver I wanted to stab him. I needed to get home as soon as possible to sleep because I had to go for a check-up today.

So I woke up feeling really tired and my eyes were still stinging but no longer red. Went to some dodgy clinic at Binjai Park Rd with my financial agent, Tommy. She recommended to lunch at Ivine's, which is a Peranakan Restaurant. They serve the best home-cooked peranakan dishes I've ever had. We ordered duck with preserved veggie soup, curry veggies, omelette with onions and a pork stew, and finished every single morsel. I couldn't believe my appetite. Much to my amaze, I was the one eating more; ended up eating 2 plates of yellow rice.

I don't know how, but Tommy and I started chatting about travelling and she mentioned that it will be her 12th year anniversary with her girlfriend in two months. 12 years. I was surprised. I told her, "Wow! This is not what I see from the lesbian scene in Singapore though. Hahaha." So I started calculating and realized they have been together since they were 18. How sweet. 18 years old is usually the age where you talk about forever without exactly knowing what forever is. She then told me that two friends of hers are going to celebrate their 14th year soon. Amazing.

Ever had a track stuck in your head for days? Radiohead's "No Surprises" is currently stuck in my mind because of "The Spanish Apartment" that I had just watched in the afternoon today. Ooooo, now Grace has got me thinking about cheese (brie, camembert, blue, or anything that's not cheddar) and crackers, and foie gras pate. I'm craving for veggie chips as well. Mmmmm....Sheren's going to call me a monster.

Bitching with the Boys

I can't believe that I initially had nothing much to do the whole day, was stuck at the office till 630pm with an empty stomach. Today is definitely not a day for work, that was what me and my colleague agreed on.

Went out to meet Gan and Jerry last night despite feeling rather sleepy. Gan simply loves to arrange things at the very last minute, he really is the epitome of impromptu and anti-procrastination. 3 of us were on MSN last night and Gan was suggesting we watch a 9.30pm screening of 'Hostel', at 8.25pm. How are we going to reach there in time? Goodness (stab him I say).

Having drinks with the boys are always fun. Fun because we (it was mostly me and Gan, I think) have clashing opinions in regards to the different aspects of life. Our topics basically comprise of: brain age, books, music, sex (duh!), infidelity, sex again, astrology, mothers, Melbourne 5 years ago, india and indians, girls, boys, and back to sex again. Hahaha. Boy, do they know how to bitch.

We left around midnight and Gan continued his night out by going clubbing on a weekday. Impressive.

Shopping with Moo

Finally met up with Grace yesterday for dinner and shopping. I told her to meet at Bugis because I wanted to get a bag from Seiyu, but upon reaching there, we realized that Seiyu was closed for the day because of their company’s D&D. Urgh.

We went to grab some dinner at a Japanese restaurant there as we needed the energy for shopping later on. Haha. Two tables had to be combined just for our food. The quality of the food served there wasn’t too bad, but I’ve had better. Grace had a sukiyaki set, whereas mine was the unagi sushi set with noodles and we both shared some sashimi. We bumped into Rudy and Kelly right after stepping out of the restaurant. Grace commented that Rudy now looks Malay due to his tan from golfing. Hahaha.

Foooooood...

Here's Grace in all her glory...

Went shopping after dinner and we wanted to get cheap singlets or tops from This Fashion (urgh). Oh my goodness. The horror upon stepping in. I don’t know what freaking genre of music they were playing; it was not canto-pop, it was some horrible mandarin techno-pop remix. We told each other, “The music is driving me nuts!” or “Urgh, can’t stand the music!” and “Oh my god…” every few minutes while browsing through the clothes rack.

The most hilarious thing happened a while later that will be recorded into my “Memory Museum of Jokes”. When we heard some stupid singer singing “你知道我在等你吗?” techno-fied version, we happened to catch each other’s eyes from almost 3m apart (we were browsing through different clothes racks). I will never forget the look on Grace’s face: I’m-trying-not-to-laugh-but-I-can’t-stand-it-and-I-hope-no-one-sees-me look. But oops, Karen saw it from afar because Karen had rolled her eyeballs and gave the what-kind-of-freaking-crap-are-they-playing look. And we managed to look up and exchange a CAN-YOU-PLEASE-KILL-ME-NOW-TO-SAVE-ME-FROM-SUCH-AGONY look in a split of a second.

Then we both burst out laughing for a whole 5 minutes or so. It was extremely hilarious for the both of us who didn’t know how to ‘appreciate’ the music as much as the salespeople were. Hahaha. We then headed to the many aisles at the market opposite Bugis Junction. I didn’t realize that the place had changed so much, from a few aisles to many aisles of clothings, bags and accessories. Our eyes were so busy once we started shopping around and trying to find good deals. Managed to get a pair of jeans for $29 and she got herself a top for $10. Now that’s what we call a good deal.

After shopping we went to have shaker fries from Maccers. Yummy! Then we started our serious conversation on topics such as: Lovers turning into strangers, the lesbian scene and all its scandals, men and their infidelity, bitching about my ex lover J. and single-hood.

Our feet were killing us by the end of night, but it was a good time out with my Moo/Grace. I can’t wait to see her again over the weekend, looooong weekend.

I still want my bag.

Monday Blues #1

I think I’m experiencing the Monday Blues for once. I get annoyed at the slightest thing. For example, I’ve found another reason to add to my list of “Why I do not like to have long hair.” I hate it when women flick their hair in a crowded MRT train. Don’t they ever consider who is standing behind them? Like YOURS TRULY? I don’t like to have hair in my face, so stop flicking your long hair every few minutes; you’re not in a shampoo commercial and never will be. I was really annoyed this morning.

Another contributing factor to my mood is the two cystic acnes that are growing on my face: one on my chin and one near my nose. I woke up, showered, looked at myself in the mirror and started complaining to my mom the whole morning, without stopping to take a breather. Another reason to hate something – I hate what the climate is doing to my skin. I’m feeling so distraught that I don’t even feel like going to the gym tonight. URGH.

Hmm. Ok, something else to write about. I spent 15 minutes last night deleting all her text messages from my mobile phone. I went through each message and once I started to delete the first one, the rest came easily. I’m burning all bridges of hope I had of getting back together.

About a month ago, she asked me, “Why do I like a fucked up person like her?” Then I told her that it’s because whenever she’s at ease and comfortable with me, whenever she gives such a spirited laugh when I make fun of her and whenever she has that gleam of hope in her eyes, it is beauty she never realized she had. At least at that moment in time, her eyes spoke such truth to me.

Nevertheless, it’s over and I’ve moved on, or shall I say we've moved on. I can now say that the happiness I had felt and that she had given was laden with cynicism and fear. I deserve much better than that – something without all the excess baggage because mines already rather heavy for my shoulders.

I just recalled something while typing this out: didn’t my tarot reader mention that I carry too much on my shoulders? Hmm…

Oooo, we may have to end up doing OT and tearing out pages from the newsletters. All 5000 of them. *fingers crossed*. I'm so annoyed...

Sleepy Saturday

I must say, almost every outing with Jerry is rather eventful. We went to watch 'Beyond the Sea' which wasn't any good at all. What a disappointment. Thought it might probably be something like 'De-Lovely', but then I was wrong.

We headed for a drink after the movie and it was only at that moment he realized that he had dropped his wallet in the cinema, so we had to walk back to find it. He managed to get it back, thankfully. I didn't know if I wanted to laugh out of pure amusement or to sympathize with him. Seems like his losing streak is determined to stay. Sigh.

So we went back for a drink, played some pool, had supper and I almost dozed off in the cab. I slept till 4pm today, without waking up at all. I'm amazed that I've been sleeping so well for the past few days without experiencing any disturbances anymore, may it be dreams, nightmares, etc. The roof could have fell on me without me knowing.

Despite being so tired at 5am in the morning, I picked up a book "The Zahir" to read for awhile, in which I came across this passage:

"....I'll suffer day and night, night and day. This could take weeks, months, possibly a year or more.

Until one morning, I'll wake up and find I'm thinking about something else, and then I'll know the worst is over. My heart might be bruised, but it will recover, and become capable of seeing the beauty of life once more. It's happened before, it will happen again, I'm sure. When someone leaves, it's because someone else is about to arrive...."

There was so much truth in this passage, I felt that I had to write it down.

I just yawned like a tiger. I've slept for 10 hours straight and I still want to sleep. *oink oink*. I intend to sleep my Saturday away.

Today's casual day at the office. My colleague said I looked different today. I said to her, "I'm back to normal today." And she replied me with, "Huh? Normal?" Now I really wonder what her perspective of 'normal' is.

I've heard 3 complaints in total from Sheren, CE and Jerry about their haircut. One said she looks like an egg, one called me from Melbourne to scream murderously and another was relatively calm but not satisified with the haircut. I find all this extremely amusing.

Waiting for the time to pass with a magazine on my desk and iTunes playing in the background. I hate to wait. I'm a bit worried about gyming today because it's going to be the first session with a personal trainer. I hope he'll be gentle with me, it's my first time. Muahahaha. And last.

Bored at the Office

I hope CE's doing fine. She called me to talk because Grace has just left Melbourne today to come back to Singapore for good. Well, I wish both of them will do well in time to come. All will be good. I know it. We're all going through rough patches, but it'll be smooth soon. Don't worry girls.

Rudy is being silly and plucking my nerves. No it's not a date, Rudy. Persistance will bring you no where. Wahahaha.

The weather is stupid and made me worry for an hour, because it almost seemed like it was going to rain, but it doesn't seem like it anymore.

My boss in NHK is misinterpretating everything we're trying to tell him and now I've got an extra load of work to do due to his level of understanding in English.

I want to watch Transamerica and they have just finished screening it last night.

I'm hungry, the office is empty and I have to wait for Rudy to come down.

I'm tired but I'm not sleepy.

I'm bored but I'm preoccupied.

Mid-Week Ranting (cont'd)

I've got a presentation tomorrow morning, so I wanted to revise some information to refresh my memory. I tried to retrieve the articles I created almost a month back and it wasn't in the database! URGH.

Panic-stricken, I logged into the backend to check if it was still there. Nope. Totally gone. My two weeks worth of work... gone... due to an upgrade in the system. One whole bloody SERIES of articles.

I've been OWNED by some bloody database upgrade. Feeling murderous now. See what I mean by mid-week ranting? Once it starts, it doesn't stop.

Ok. Enough of work.

I've been thinking of a lot of things over the past week since Wednesday (since when do I not stop thinking anyway). I came to a conclusion about 2 minutes ago: that I've never been happier... ever. Despite all that I had experienced, however blissful, however ecstatic I had felt, nothing beats how I'm feeling now - at peace with myself. I will not stupidly put myself through turmoil again.

I can say that I have the courage to brave the storm ahead...alone.

I also think that the Virgos I hook up with are nasty little people when it comes to love, but they make great friends. Then again, that makes me a Nasty Virgo too. Wahahahaha.

Mid-week Ranting

I’ve just intimidated my male colleague into wearing a tie, because I wore a thin black tie to work today. Ha! I love how that feels.

My mother was giving me the shits this morning about how one should conform to what the society wants one to be. I have no idea what’s going on in her mind at 7.30am in the morning. She’s been really sweet though; waking up at 7am every morning when she’s on leave for 3 weeks, just to make breakfast for me. Think I’ll bring her out for dinner soon.

I’m feeling terrible. Absolutely stressed out and I can’t walk properly due to the strain in my thigh muscles from my first workout session at the gym on Monday. Urgh. Funny thing is that I don’t know what I’m stressed about. I have no official deadlines, but I’ve given myself a deadline to complete my series of articles by Friday, in which I will need to start a mind-numbing job of organizing 2000 over articles in the database: correcting grammatical errors, changing the font face and size, alignment, etc.

Ok. I’ve just received news 5 minutes ago that I really do need to complete them as soon as possible because there’ll be a meeting with the translation centre in May. I’ve finally felt the stress of working and it took awhile for it to set in. I’m actually feeling anxious about work and that never used to happen.

Sigh. I’m in dire need of loving arms to collapse in and patient ears to hear my ranting. Since that's not gonna happen anytime soon, I'm thinking if I should bring my crystals into the office. Hahaha.

Tee-est-toe

After years of anticipation and Tiesto's "refusal" to tour Australia, we (Jerry and I) finally managed to catch him in Singapore. It was a great night (a lil' nostaligic as well), despite the sweaty and pushy crowd. The music compensated for all the downsides of holding a gig at MOS. Was a little disappointed though, as I had hoped he would spin some old tracks.

Almost halfway through the night, we spotted something on the screens that was rather disturbing for me to look at. The projection and plasma screens around MOS were showing: "1-For-1 Vodka Rebdull All Night." See why I found it disturbing? I can't stand typo errors. They changed it eventually.

I've also made another discovery. I know why I can't dance to any other music, may it be house, dance or r&b. My friends think I'm uptight. Then I realised: I can only move to trance or techno. No wonder I'm never seen dancing coz the last trance gig I ever went to was almost 5 years ago. Either that, or I'm really old now.

My ears are now suffering from the after-effect of prolonged exposure to loud music. Urgh. I'm half-deaf now and am still thinking of heading to Poptart tonight. Maybe I should just chill and rest my ears for now, at least my legs still belong to me. Hehe.

IQ

Just did an IQ Test and scored 124 for it. And this is what it said:

Your Intellectual Type is Word Warrior. This means you have exceptional verbal skills. You can easily make sense of complex issues and take an unusually creative approach to solving problems. Your strengths also make you a visionary. Even without trying you're able to come up with lots of new and creative ideas. And that's just a small part of what we know about you from your test results.

Hmmmmm...

Train of Thoughts

I was on the train to work this morning and these thoughts occured to me:

Why do we know our world around us so well? - the weight of air, the distance between the stars, the calculations of things that are larger than life and smallest to the miniscule detail.

If we were so smart to have learnt and to understand the world around us, yet why aren't we able to grasp what's inside of us? Why are we not able to understand the reason for the existence of this soul of ours, why we laugh with joy, cry with despair and love like there was no tomorrow?

If happiness is what we make out of it, then I dare say that none of us are happy at all, though we try so hard to make ourselves happy. Aren't we always in need of something more? Aren't we always wishing we had more because we thought that it would make us momentarily happy?

And I sat down and said
"I don't want to suffer"

But she told me
She had nothing to offer
No more

Today marks our death day.

I think I've had it.

The Zoo

I've posted some pictures taken during our shooting trip at the Zoo. I'm so physically exhausted and my hands and shoulders are aching due to carrying heavy equipment and walking around, sitting, waiting and lifting up our cameras just to take a good shot. I remember my hands and arms were shaking so much after lunch, my shots were rather blur. Haha.

Daren even gave me and my colleague, Angela, a checklist to complete. We were supposed to think, compose and capture the following list of items:

  • An elephants trunk or its foot
  • A scene of a 'parent and child' sharing intimacy
  • A tiger's yawn
  • White tiger's piercing blue eyes
  • Photographers or team members photographing in awkward positions
  • Interesting/funny signs or notices
  • Reflections of Life
And then he inserted a quote at the bottom, "You need less imagination to be a painter because you can invent things. But in photography everything is so ordinary; it takes a lot of looking before you learn to see the extraordinary. - David Bailey"

Ok, here's for your viewing pleasure. I took a total of 142 pictures, without counting how many I've deleted on the way and I've chosen the few that I like. How I wish I was able to upload a 5++MB file, as the uncompressed RAW files are so much more sharper and beautiful.

The white tigers from Indonesia were definately the highlight of the shooting trip. I think we stayed there for almost 30-45 mins just to shoot and observe them. Took heaps of photos of the tigers and we just couldn't bring ourselves to walk away from there, totally mesmerized by them. Such stunning creatures they are.

The baboons are wonderful creatures too. They can look straight into your eyes and make you shift in your seat a little. Because it seems that we, the visitors of the zoo, are there to entertain them rather than they are there for our amusement. One thing we've realized is that the animals know when we are approaching all the time because once we turn that corner, they are there waiting for us and looking at our direction, despite being kept behind glass cages or not. Another amazing thing about the animals are that they know when to look into the camera. You can tell that they are acknowledging our presence there.

Honestly, I don't know what the polar bear was trying to prove. It is kind of weird to see polar bears playing with toys.

This is my favourite shot. Hehe.

I want a lion for myself. My colleagues had trouble pulling me away from the lion's enclosure. They ended up waiting for me to get over the fact that I will never be able to own a lion.

Sigh.

Another favourite shot of mine.

Some landscape pictures. Kind of cheated here. The grass is never so green in Singapore. Hahaha.

And here are my two colleagues who went to the Zoo with me:

Was an unforgettable trip. I'm now looking forward to using my D70s more, bringing it out and start shooting more. All the sweat yesterday at the zoo was well worth it.

Next challenge:
Landscape, night and action photography

I've told myself that my last and final challenge will be bird photography. Hehe.

A Parcel From Oz

I've been expecting a parcel from CE all this while because she said she would burn me some DVDs to keep me entertained at home. Instead of recieving a medium envelope, I recieved a box that was almost 40cm long, and maybe 20cm in height. Now that's a huge box for some DVDs. I was rather surprised when the post-office lady brought out a box instead of a document envelope and of course the parcel had to be mine as I recognized Australia Post's boxes (thanks to eBay trading).

Couldn't wait to see what else she had chucked inside the parcel, so upon reaching home I immediately tore the box open and the parcel consisted of:
  • A card, notes and letters from before,
  • A small passport-sized photo of Mashi,
  • A Lindt Easter chocolate bunny, Easter egg and carrot-shaped chocolates,
  • A packet of Tim Tams,
  • A packet of Arnott's Raspberry Shortcake,
  • A photo album containing our pictures taken from our trip to Sydney many years ago,
  • A book by Paulo Coelho called "The Zahir" recommended by her,
  • and a CD case containing heaps and heaps of DVDs
.....don't think I left anything out.

Rummaging through the parcel containing all these small gifts and items (although some do rightfully belong to me) has somehow left me in a state of surprise...and shock. This silly CE just has to return me certain items that I feel she should keep. Urgh. *smacks CE*. Hehehe. Nonetheless, thank you very much for your little pressies, they made me smile. =)

I just recalled I had something to blog about. Someone added me on MSN and mistook me for her friend. That was almost 2 weeks ago. Recently, this girl messaged again and I had to save the conversation. In order to save you from any confusion, I've highlighted my part of the conversation in blue:

Russian Dolls

Watched Russian Dolls (sequel to The Spanish Apartment) with Jerry and his friend last night. I must confess that I did not have the chance to catch The Spanish Apartment and had thought that I wouldn’t know what would go on in the sequel. However, the sequel itself is, I would say, not very much like a sequel.

Russian Dolls is a witty French romance comedy that portrays what we all seek for in love and life: the perfect partner/the one/Mr. or Miss Right or whatever you may call it. And of course the age old question of what love is and why go through it when one knows that it is bound to bring one pain. The protagonist of the movie brings us into a recount of his encounter with love and perfection, love for Wendy and the illusion of love with his so-called perfect girl, Celia.

It was only towards the end of the movie when we, the audience, were given an explanation as to why the title Russian Dolls was chosen. Russian Dolls is a metaphor for searching the one true love, the last person whom one will live a life with. You open the dolls one after the other, the only main motive is to get to the very last one; but in order to get to her; one must have to go through many others before chancing upon your one true final love.

I’m only scratching the surface here; you’ll need to watch the show to experience the real intensity of love, romance, passion, hope, disappointment and loss. After finally catching a movie worth remembering, we headed towards Ice Cold Beer. I left around 11pm to meet Agnes at Mr. Bean Café and we sat there chatting till 2am in the morning. It was comforting to have had a heart-to-heart conversation with her once again, after so many years of separation (almost 9 years I believe) and of leading our individual lives. And now that our circumstances in love are rather similar, we found that although we don’t have them, we still have each other, which is very heartwarming indeed.

I ended up sleeping at 3+ in the morning and was woken up twice. Once was because I stretched my body and my left calf muscles started pulling so badly that I was almost screaming in agony. I was woken up the second time as my right foot was cramped up and my toes were all curled downwards. Urgh. I’m always experiencing leg/foot cramps or muscle strains. Now my left leg still hurts from the strenuous pull.

Feeling slightly dizzy now, wondering if it’s due to lack of sleep or food, or maybe even both.

Here are some pictures that I've promised to upload:

Jay looking totally engrossed or disgusted at something.

A for Agnes

I'll be going to the zoo on Friday for a company shooting trip! Yay, finally! Will post other pictures then.

Most busy weekend ever...

Met two girls from Mediacorp during our Nikon night out at Robertson Quay. Luckily they were there because I had gotten rather bored of that place, plus they were gay (it was obvious). So I ended up entertaining them more than my company's marketing girl was. Was rather fun, made new acquaintances, drank a bit, played Big 2, pool and darts. Laughing at how silly and "straight" the women are at my company and how it would be better to not let them know that I am gay.

So we started talking about this issue of not revealing your sexual orientation to your colleagues. People in the corporate and IT sector are rather conservative and narrow-minded, so it wouldn't be too good to let too many people know. And then Sandy (one of the girls I got to know from Mediacorp) made a remark, "Aiya, please la. You already 'pi-cha lobang'. Once I walked in, I knew you're gay." Oops!

That was the first remark. The second one made by her colleague was worse, "Karen, I should introduce you this girl. She prefers those butchy kind of girls." WHA-????? ME??? Then I started telling her off for insulting me. Was hilarious though.

Still sticking to the topic on "Not allowing your colleagues know that you're gay" issue, I recieved a new friend request in Friendster yesterday. And it was my colleague from my team. Damn. Wonder if they'll take it well, plus I have my old blog address in my profile too. Mind you, they are really straighter than straight hetereosexuals I've ever met. They always like to joke about being lesbian or gay, and of course, Brokeback Mountain. It's not funny anymore.

Ok. Then came Saturday! Whoo, I love weekends because only then do I feel more at ease with myself, almost as if I have a split personality. Celebrated Suping's birthday yesterday. I went to town to get her a present and to collect the rings me and R. made long time ago. I also bought a scent called bergamot for aromatherapy. It's supposed to relieve anxiety, induce sleep and it's good for people with an oily complexion. Just the perfect oil for me.

Headed off to Clarke Quay for dinner and ended up having Spanish food. Clarke Quay has changed soooo much, I was amazed at how modern and clean it looks now. The initial plan was to go to 1 Night Stand, which is a stand-up comedy bar, but we ended up at Ministry of Sound (MOS) instead. It was my first time there, so I kind of got a bit lost inside. The place is rather huge and I would say the decor inside is not too bad. I went around exploring the different rooms and Suping's friends decided to stay in the R&B room (woe to me as I wanted to go to the Pure Room or the main room for trance). Had a drink and a shot, and then decided to go home. To be honest, we were rather bored because her colleagues were so segregated as one wanted to go to the Retro Room, the other trance, the other R&B, etc. We found it rather difficult to accomodate to their needs and therefore we left midway.

Will be meeting Brad, Tinn and Mack tonight, but before that I'll be meeting my long-lost secondary school friend, Agnes. Good that she found a girlfriend who lives in Bt. Batok, so we can meet up more often than before. Hahaha.

I shall lunch and take a nap afterwards. I feel that I have insufficient sleep despite how much I've been sleeping. Now I'm dreading this week, think there will be a bit of partying during the weekdays. Thursday is MOS, again. Sigh.

Ok, will post up some pics later on.
