Last Post for Year 2006

I sat down at my desk this morning and while waiting for my laptop to boot up, I took my calendar from the table and started flipping through it. This Korean Air desk calendar that I brought from home was given to me by my mom (she gets tons of calendars each year). The dates are laid out in rather big boxes, so you could make notes for that particular day.

I had started marking the calendar from 6^th of March onwards (the day that I started work), and crossed out each and every single day that went by. I flipped through each month and saw numerous meetings I had attended, announcements, things-to-do, deadlines, personal appointments with the hairstylists, waxer, financial consultant, and etc.

Then I realized that throughout the whole of 2006, besides knowing the most amazing person who is of utmost importance in my life now, I haven’t accomplished much. I am amongst the few fortunate ones to have the opportunity to travel out of Singapore; I have had the chance of making 4 trips - Melbourne, Shanghai, Thailand (Koh Samui) and Thailand again (Phuket and Krabi). And yet, this new life I’ve tried to establish here still feels rather alien and unfamiliar.

2006 has passed me by as a blur and other than spending a lot of time and energy at work, I’ve yet to do something that is rewarding. Besides certain significant occurrences this year – getting dumped, first full-time job, leaving Melbourne, financially independent, and knowing Bunny, my life is pretty much a bore. Hell, I even look like one!

Now I’m rambling about how my life could have been more interesting, and how I didn’t spend my time wisely this year..la di da di da, I still don’t bear to dump that desk calendar of mine because the markings on it are like certain milestones to me, or perhaps deep down I’m still living in the year 2006 – significantly important and yet unimportant at the same time. Yes, I’m a walking contradiction.

Nonetheless, I’m pretty glad that this year was full of trips and vacations. I’ve lost and gained certain aspects of my life; I’ve also learned so much from this job and am now continuing my path towards a new (stable) life.

What are my resolutions for the year 2007? Actually, there are no great resolutions I have in mind currently. Perhaps one of the few ones would be to finish up the project I have on hand and impress the hell out of myself for being able to even start working on it in depth. Or perhaps take up tennis, yoga and practice my swimming. And of course, save up, travel more and return to either Melbourne or Krabi for a vacation.

Despite all the inevitable ups and downs we face, I hope your year was great.

Boxing Day at Grace's

We were all invited to Grace's place on Boxing Day. While she was whipping up a feast for god knows how many people (family, family friends, friends of her siblings, friends of her friends of her siblings, and us), we braved the rain and managed to find our way to her place.

It was the first time I met Quentin, and I must say, "Boy! Do they look good together". Hahaha. That's besides the point. Truth is, I felt extremely happy for Moo and she looked very contented. It's amazing to see all that love radiating from her just by the way she looks at him, and glowing from the tan and you-know-what. *giggles*

Being the camera whores we are and doing what we do best, we started shooting whilst eating at the same time.

Here we are, reminiscing on the good and bad days of yore

Sifting through and laying out the images made me realize that we spent numerous birthdays, dinners and special occasions together. It was quite an emotional journey for me when I browsed through the archived images of us in Melbourne and our trips back to Singapore. I don't know what's the reason behind it, but we concluded that we actually look younger now than before! Haha.

After dinner at Grace's, Bunny came over to my place for a while and I finally introduced her to my mom.

Ever since that introduction, my mom couldn't stop raving about how small and cute Bunny is, and how she looks slimmer in real person as opposed to the few photos I've shown her previously. She even called me at my office just to tell me, again, how adorable she is.

My mom has a crush on my girlfriend. HAHAHAHA.

It's a good thing though. Well, at least it makes me feel more at ease now. The skepticism gained from my past relationship of how people judge me superficially is gradually fading and I'm getting attuned to finally being accepted for how and who I am, once again. I deserve that and if nobody can give or do that for me, then you can jolly well stick that superficial nonsense up your fungal infested asshole.

Hmmm.

Bunny and I had a pre-Christmas dinner at Angus..finally. We had been planning on treating ourselves to a sumptuous 5 course steak dinner there and finally decided to do so on Friday.

Bunny was beaming with delight before, throughout and after dinner too. She simply couldn't contain her excitement and joy having being steak-deprived for god knows how long.

Orchard Rd packed with Christmas shoppers. You could hardly breathe, let alone walk.

Christmas Dinner '06

Christmas dinner this year consisted of:

1. Rosemary and lemon chicken roasted with herbs, garlic, onions, carrots, potatoes and mushrooms
   
2. Mushroom and celery stuffing
3. Pineapple, orange and honey baked ham with beer glazing
   
4. Garden and butter lettuce salad, with cherry tomatoes, emmental cheese and balsamic dressing
5. Sauteed potatoes
6. Baguette bread as a side dish
7. Steak marinated according to Bunny's own recipe
8. Christmas decorated cupcakes with frosting from Noel Gifts
9. Nutty marshmallow chocolate ice-cream
   

This was the first time I prepared an actual Christmas dinner. Over the past few years, I have not had the opportunity to prepare one, as most of the dinners were either prepared by others, or we simply had a pot luck or BBQ dinner.

So it's rather special for me this year, plus I was pretty worried the chicken wouldn't turn out well (considering the fact that I have not cooked for more than a year). Thank god everything turned out well...besides the oven over-heating, as well as causing a pot to burst in the microwave, everything else was a breeze...hmm.

After filling our stomachs with the hearty, home-cooked X'mas dinner, we lazed around till midnight. When the clock struck 12 sharp, everyone started rushing to the X'mas tree and started giving out presents.

...whilst others simply wore them on their wrist.

What a quiet and wet Christmas this year. I'm sure I wasn't the only one basking with contentment and relishing the joy derived from a pleasant and merry x'mas spent with loved ones.

New York, New York..

No, I wasn't physically at NYC and neither am I listening to the song. There's a new joint at Citylink called "New York, New York" that served so-called "American food". I believe that the States do not have their own signature dish, or something you can call American, therefore the restaurant basically served steaks, hamburgers, main dishes consisting of poultry, ribs or seafood, and desserts such as cheesecakes, chocolate cakes and etc.

It was the eve of MH's birthday, so Krysten suggested we have dinner last night.

Chocolate Fondue - I hate marshmallows. Speaking of which, I actually smuggled one home to do an experiment with it. Sheren told me she heated one up in the microwave and it blew up to a size of a small pillow! I was so amazed I decided I wanted to try it with my microwave as well. On second thought, I decided not to. Didn't want another reason for my mom to nag at.

We talked about work and then proceeded to traveling, where I described to them me and Bunny's roadtrip in Thailand from Phuket to Krabi, and the fishes, snorkeling, beaches, etc. We mentioned of an opportunity to head to Bali in May, let's hope we really do that!

Don't you just hate it when dreams haunt you and you wake up dazed, trying to differentiate the real world from the dream world (or is it vice versa?).

All the hidden thoughts, emotions, desires and dark secrets you never knew you had, or you chose to close them up, thus creating your own Pandora box; unleashes itself during those few hours of unconsciousness.

I never liked waking up with my mind clouded with scenes from dreams.

HerStory last Thursday proved to be a flop. Without having to watch the show, one could already hear from the way the "actresses" were reciting their lines, that the whole show was a complete waste of time on our part, and money on theirs. On top of that, the crowd wasn't appealing.

In contrast, the girl's party on Friday night proved to be quite successful, with an older group of women attending the party. Good thing was that Sheren and MH finally made it for a night out with us.
