Sammi Cheng - Show Mi Concert

Thanks to Bunny's colleague, we managed to get free tickets to Sammi Cheng's comeback concert - Show Mi.

We saw quite a number of "People Like Us" there and here's Sheren and MH seated amongst the audience:

The concert didn't start till much later, so we snapped some pictures while queuing up to use the toilet:




Here's Sammi's first costume get-up:

She started the concert with her ex-beau's song "唯独你是不可取代", tore of the blindfold and wig and disappeared off-stage, which drove the fans crazy:



And reappeared with a red wig:

...which we didn't really like at all.

Her next costume comprised a black doll wig and leggings:

After singing a few fast tracks, she went for a costume change again and re-emerged in a black outfit with a long wig, which kind of suited her, but not very "Sammi-like":

During this section of the concert, she started telling us about her 2 year break and how her family has a habit of writing letters to each other. She told us that there was a point in time when she felt confused about her life, and her dad wrote back to her, advising her to take a break, which she did. During this break, she rested at home, and started drawing and painting (which she showed a few on the big screens). It was pretty moving and I guess she touched the hearts of her fans.

Stefanie Sun was the guest appearance for her Singapore concert. Zzzz. Bunny said, "THAT could have been Denise Ho." Ya. If we were watching the concert in Hong Kong, not Singapore. *snores*

We were so bored during this segment that we started taking pictures of ourselves, again:




Sammi disappeared while Stefanie Sun was singing and reappeared with her hip-hop outfit, getting ready to pump up the heat with a medley of fast tracks:




During the ENTIRE concert, Bunny's eyes were fixed on this dancer. Hahahaha. She was busy following her with the binoculars, NOT Sammi.


Sammi's a bit of a dork when it comes to dancing, but I guess this is what makes her so adorable and appealing to everyone. Even artistes aren't perfect, huh?



After the Canto-pop medley, she went to change into her last outfit - a flattering white pants suit, which I believe many people thought she looked the best in:

My favourite song (thank goodness she sang it) stolen from YouTube. Some people are simply rich enough to get front row seats.

She invited two girls from the audience to sing with her and she would then reward them with limited edition t-shirts. I think those two girls would not be able to sleep for the next few weeks or so:


There's a close-up video of the above segment on YouTube, but the person who took it didn't manage to capture the funny bits, so please bear with this pixelated and noisy video of mine. This segment was the funniest and Sammi was cracking us up by teasing the girls, calling them "肥妹", making jokes and simply being how she is - very straightforward and a bit tactless at times.

What's disappointing was that she didn't reappear for the encore. The audience waited for another 15 minutes or so and once they switched on the stadium lights, we realised that there wouldn't be any encore at all. My colleague, who sat at the front few rows, told me that the security guards were chasing them away while they were waiting for the encore. Tsk.

The concert was good because Sammi's a great performer, but other than that, the stage set-up and costumes weren't fantastic. Such a pity that they don't bring the full Hong Kong version and props over to other countries.

We moved to the store next to us for desserts - the famous 24 hour dao-huey at Geylang:

Having satisfied our eardrums and stomachs, we headed home, raving about the concert along the way.

We attended yet another performance this year! I've never been to so many performances or concerts in a year. It's great fun indeed! Thanks to Bunny's colleague, whoever he is.

Sheren's Birthday Dinner

It's Sheren's birthday again and it has been a year since we last celebrated her birthday! We had such a mad and crazy time at Sentosa last year- running around on the beach, camera-whoring and swimming in the pool with only our panties and tops!

This year was a quiet affair. Sheren chose Da Paolo as her dinner venue and it was a good choice indeed:

The food was fantastic! My steak was soooo soft and it reminded me of my wagyu beef at Angus last Christmas.

I went to buy Sheren's favourite tiramisu cake from Canele:

After a filling dinner at Da Paolo, we dragged our bloated stomachs to Starbucks for their Green Tea and Raspberry Frapuccinos:

The green tea flavoured one wasn't as nice as the raspberry one. We're going for raspberries next time we go to Starfucks!

Have you signed?

The Straits Times did a feature on this petition yesterday: To repeal Penal Code 377a, which stipulates that if a man is found to have committed an act of "gross indecency" with another man (consensual or not), he will serve a jail sentence of two years.

To date, this petition has collected 3038 signatures which will be sent in an open letter to PM Lee Hsien Loong on October 19. The calls for signatures will also end on that date.

The newspaper reported that many people from all walks of life - straight or gay, high-flyers, professionals, teachers, managers, engineers, and so on, have signed the petition, and even included their job title and organisation! It's a great start. I've already signed it, but I didn't include other information besides my name and resident status. So, I'm going to SIGN IT AGAIN!!! And not exclude those details!

Have you signed this petition? Quickly do so before the due date! This might be our only chance!

By keeping this stone-aged penal code, it will only serve as a basis for discrimination. Whatever happened to honour and respect? And what about the nation's pledge on "justice and equality"?

If you take a look at the list of signatures and comments, you'll probably come to realise that fending for gay rights is not something only gay people do, but even heterosexuals believe that there should be equality and non-discriminate laws in this country that's developing so fast, yet lives in its past.

I really like what this media manager wrote: "If we're going to get our men to die for this country, we shouldn't give them a lecture on their sexual orientation."

Hahahahaha. Well said!

Bebel Gilberto at the Esplanade

Bebel Gilberto's performance at the Esplanade last night was simply breathtaking. She appeared on stage while the band started playing the first tune and strutted to her table and chair, which was readily prepared with a white towel, a bottle of water and a glass of red wine. Apparently before the show started, the announcer apologised for the slight delay as they had to change the wine. Perhaps she's a bit fussy with what wine she drinks while performing. Hahaha.

Only Brazilian music practitioners like her are able to caress each note and word with such exquisite charm and smoothness. Bebel's music is soothing, lush and upbeat. There was nothing fancy about the stage and their clothes; just pure simplicity and pure bossa-nova; seductive, hypnotising and beautifully delivered throughout the night. Bebel was pitch-perfect; blending bossa nova, samba and electronica genres, without letting one overpower the other. Her rendition of Cole Porter's Night and Day was beautifully recasted into a unique bossa nova tune with slight jazzy hints.

She performed quite a number of tracks from her Tanto Tempo album. Since her new album has not debuted in Singapore, she didn't see a point to perform her new tracks, so instead she stuck to the ones her audience was familiar with, such as Samba De Banco, Tanto Tempo and Mais Feliz. Trying not to sound too much like the CD, she incorporated distinct bossa "clicks" and voice effects, leading each song to last for at least a good 5 minutes or so.

All in all, her performance was great and the band was fantastic. Everything was done perfectly and it really does make one wonder: Do performers EVER make mistakes? Well, I guess it does help when your dad is known as "the man who invented bossa nova".

Mental note to thyself: Buy Bebel Gilberto's new album - Momento.

A Nice Surprise From Moo

Yay! I have finally received Moo's present from Sydney!

It was sooooo sweet of her to come up with this package as a birthday present. I didn't even expect anything at all! It really came as a surprise, a very sweet one too.

The oh-so-familiar mailing box from Australia Post. The parcel was addressed to "Bbit" Karen Lim. Hahahaha.

Oooo...so many things!

What's in the box? We've got:

4 packets of Tim Tams for my chocolate cravings that I get so often

Our favourite snack - potato chips, typically Australia's Red Rock Deli chips. And a packet of OUR MOST UNHEALTHY AND FAVOURITE junk food - Burger Rings! Gosh, I didn't realise how much I missed Burger Rings until I saw it!

On Being Grumpy - a book Moo found in a second-hand bookstore which we both love to spend a lot of time at.



A matching blue sleeveless top and cardigan, something which Moo says will suit me for work and for dressing down later at night.


And a handmade card just for me...

These are such meaningful and thoughtful gifts, reminding me of the times we would rave about Burger Rings, gorge on Tim Tams, recommend books to each other and supporting each other with meaningful advice from time to time.

I was so touched when I went through the parcel and my mom was commenting that it was so sweet of Moo to send me such stuff, especially when she's not physically around.

It's always nice to receive gifts from another country. Thank you so much, Moo! It was such a nice surprise and it means a lot to me.
