Class 4C ('97) 10th Year Reunion Dinner

I'm still feeling elated from the heartwarming reunion dinner on Saturday night. One of my classmates from secondary school organised a 10th year reunion dinner at Trader's Hotel and contacted many of us, and around 14 of us turned up eventually. Trader's Hotel was where we held our graduation dinner 10 years ago. We were told to wear white because that was the colour of our graduation ceremony in 1997.

Prior to the dinner, I was getting all stressed out and was wondering if things would be different now, whether I'll be feeling uncomfortable throughout the evening, or if they're still friendly and not prude or standoffish.

I was getting anxious until I reached there and when I stepped in, I was greeted with warm smiles and sincere greetings. It was a nice feeling and till today, I'm still feeling a little fuzzy and warm inside. Heh. They said I've changed a lot and I look so tan now!

Obviously we started catching up right away and since 10 years has passed, it's quite difficult to list out the exact details of each and everyone's lives, so Diana (my old best friend), suggested we grab some dessert after dinner and start an open sharing session. The common questions were "what are you doing now?", "what did you do after school?" and "are you attached?". It seems like ALL us have not changed much - the jokes we make, the people we laugh at, the ex-schoolmates we used to tease, the sarcastic ones have remained so and the bossy ones were still bossing people around.

Jolene, Meiting (Charlotte) and Weiting (Chervonne)

It seems like all of them are doing well. What's amazing is that ALL of them there (with the exception of 4, incuding me) have been in a relationship for at least 4 years! The average lifespan of a relationship for them was 5 - 7 years! Sheesh! One of them commented that IJ girls are quite loyal. Hmmmm....maybe? Hahaha.

Yaomei and Diana (the organiser and my closest friend from Sec. 3 and 4)

What I found even more surprising was that none of them are considering marriage! Well, except for one or two. Compared to my colleagues or the women I come across these days, almost all of them are itching and dying to get married, especially those who have been in a relationship for a few years now.

But I guess girls who came from girl's schools or convents are like this - very strong-headed and independent. When they were sharing their views on marriage and relationships, you could tell that they were not the impulsive sort, very determined, practical and VERY confident. They shun the thought of marriage. It's usually what men do, but for these women, they are the ones who call the shots. Hahaha.

I felt very comfortable with them and this is something which rarely happens to me - feeling at ease amongst the crowd. I guess I've always been comfortable with this lot because we used to see each other every singe day for many years! Another reason could be due to the lack of association with convent girls these days! Hahaha. So once I'm around them, I let my guard down and we all behave like giggly schoolgirls with blue pinafores once again.

Half of the notorious bunch who skipped classes, hid in toilets, played with water in the toilets, smoked in the toilets, threw toilet paper at the toilet ceilings, disturbed other classmates during lessons, sashayed around the school during lessons, scolded teachers, ignored teachers and might have caused one Chinese teacher to have had a heart attack. The other half (who are even MORE notorious) weren't there.

Me, Diana and Gladys

Me and Diana. Before we snapped this picture she told me that she thinks of me every 12th of September, but we lost touch and she wasn't able to wish me happy birthday. How sweet! And I gave her a tight hug.

I hope life has been kind to these girls and I wish them all the joy and happiness in every aspect of their life - career, family and love/marriage.

ARGH! I really miss school days!
