STC Revisited...after 11 years

I received an event invitation (via Facebook) to my secondary school to attend some fun fair that they hold every few years. Before the day arrived, I kept thinking that perhaps the school isn't that big since one looks at things in a different perspective when one is younger. But upon arriving at the school grounds, I wasn't mistaken. The school looks the same to me and it's just as huge as how I had known it to be.

School gate.

"Light on a hill". Once upon a time, we had to climb up the hill every single day just to get to school. These days, the girls just have to climb an overhead bridge and they're there.

The IJ badge. Right outside the staff room.

Ground floor. There used to be two cats here.

The old band room. I hate this colour scheme. It used to be just white and blue, now it looks exactly like my HDB block.

Jesus is still where he is

Miss Stoned looking for her classroom

A classroom on the ground floor

The toilet - we used to throw wet toilet paper onto the ceiling just to watch it stick.

The classroom block.

This was something new - a garden feature next to the bookstore.

Approaching the hardcourt

Taken outside the auditorium. Forgot to take a peep inside. Hmm.

The school hall.

The exact spot where Miss Stoned used to give morning commands before the National Anthem.

View of the school grounds - pity the tent was in the way:

School canteen - the tables have changed and the dessert store wasn't open. Damn it!

Band room

Ex drum-major posing outside the band room. "There's this one time..at band camp..."

EAT ME! Kids these days...

Hockey field! They have a bloody hockey field now! We had to play on grass and mud last time! They even have a netball field too!

And a race track...this was one view we've never seen before.

I even spoke with the ex-discipline mistress! I was a bit nervous initially because she's so intimidating but after warming up to her, she told me she had retired and that she was invited back to teach Maths. Although she's no longer the discipline mistress, I'm sure the students are still afraid of her.

She does look like an old and sweet lady, now that she can't tell me off. Hmm, but she did do so that day by saying that I was still so skinny since secondary school! Oh well. Hehehe. It's nice to get scolded once in awhile.

I read from the Facebook group that the school's going to be upgraded...again. Miss Chan (the discipline mistress) was telling me about the renovations that are to be made and it sounded like she was a little bit against it because the buildings are still as new as ever and all they need to do is to repaint it. But instead, they're tearing down the classroom block and the school hall, simply because there are too many students and the building, albeit big, can't accommodate everyone. And so, the school will be moved to the New Town secondary school compound (yucks) for a year or two.

This might just be the last time I'll ever step into school again. And once the buildings are torn down, they will no longer hold the memories that they used to.
